Dancing Comparison Vid

We put together this clip of dancing footage to show to our primary and secondary target audience to gain feedback on the effectiveness of the dancing footage and what they think looks best.

PP - Promoting MKTP and Rough Cut

To help promote MKTP Productions and try and gain more audience feedback on our rough cuts, I tweeted fan accounts on twitter for PCD. I also tweeted the band members in hope that they might reply as this would hopefully increase our amount of followers. By having more people follow our progression towards the final cut of our music video we are more likely to get lots of constructive criticism and therefore a better end result. As the fans of the original PCD are in our primary target audience age bracket and like the music and that genre we are getting feedback from who matters. This along with us posting on multiple forums such as fan pop help us to gain as much feedback as possible.

MagAd Draft 1

Individual magazine ad draft
After researching magazine ad conventions we decided to create a magazine ad featuring an image of the group together and each member individually with their younger partner featured in the video. This creates a relationship between the audience and group as well as promoting the album and video. The idea of having the individual advertisements (seen to the right) makes the audience feel more connected to the group and puts across the idea that the group all respect their fans.
We looked over past tour dates for the group and saw that they have played at major arenas throughout the world so for our tour we thought it was appropriate to use major arenas and dates that are fairly close together.
After looking at The Pussycat Dolls' previous albums, we recognised that they use a particular font for the artist name. They use a BudmoJiggler font for the 'Pussycat' and a tudor style font for the 'Dolls', however we struggled to find a similar font for the Dolls so we have improvised with a girly font, although this is open to change. We downloaded the BudmoJiggler font from a website called http://www.dafont.com/budmo.font.
For this ad, we have stuck to the colour blue, as this is their individual colour which represents them. We enhanced the blue dress and top and added a glow effect to make the photo appear brighter and more eye catching.

Shoot 4 - 12/01/14

On Sunday the 24th we met up with the older cast to shoot more dance and lip syncing footage. We found a brick wall and shot each member of the group lip syncing in front of it. When it comes to editing we had the idea of experimenting with layering graffiti onto the wall, to make it appear more urban. We then shot more dance footage with the group in time, and individual shots.
After this location, we went to a derelict primary school, which provided a concrete platform perfect for dancing on. We shot various angles and shot types of the group dancing to provide us with more opportunity and variety when editing. This location was good as it was as open space and the mise-en-scene fits in with the urban genre. There were no unwanted objects in the background such as cars and houses.

All in all the shoot went well, as we had shot with the girls before so they already knew the lyrics and dance and therefore knew what to do straight away.

PP - Past Mag Ads by The Pussycat Dolls

Advertisement with tour dates

This advertisement would be a good example to take reference from as a lot of artists advertise their tours as well as their album, and it is something we should consider. The arenas shown in the advertisements are ones we would realistically use as well.

On all the advertisements I have seen the colour scheme has been black and red. Their logo is always shown and as the majority of the advertisements are from their doll domination album and tour so the album cover of them on motorbikes are from that. The background seems to be green screened in and the picture of the girls is heavily photoshopped and airbrushed.
QR codes are not shown here but as these aren't

very recent ads the need for them would have been as current as it is today.

By showing the girls on a motor bike it also helps the advertisement appeal to men, along with the minimal clothing reinforcing the male gaze theory.

Magazine Conventions

Magazine adverts are used to promote the artist and sell their material. It is important for the advert to be eye catching, so that readers will observe the advert and notice the artist and consider buying the product.

To create a successful advertisement, there are many conventions that should be included, to provide the reader with information about the product:
  • Artist name
  • Image of album cover; this provides an eye catching element and means that the readers will know what it looks like when going to buy it if that's what they choose.
  • The release date
  • Where you can purchase it; online companies e.g. amazon, iTunes
  • Record label logo
The advertisement needs to have some relation to the music video so that a constant link is maintained and the audience can understand the mag ad.

PP - Rough Cut Feedback

We got feedback from our colleagues who are n the age bracket of out target audience to give us feedback on our first rough cut.

1. They thought that the colour used at the start of the video used in editing to create a coloured tint over the characters was too vibrant, and may be more effective if toned down and had more of a subtle effect.

2. The cat walk section for the older pussycat dolls had messy mise-en-scene, for example you can see a car parked in the back right hand side of the shot, and they suggested that this part should be reshot because of this. They also thought that for the catwalk section the older and younger PCD should be in the same location so that the transitions between them are smoother. Framing also needs to be improved on this section.

3. They liked the skatepark section and thought it worked well.

4. They also thought that the narrative didn't come across. As we explained the basic narrative before them watching it, they had some idea of what we were aiming for, however they thought that the older girls fame wasn't anchored enough and we should further reinforce it using mise-en-scene such as a limo and red carpet. We could also show paparazzi and and crowds.

5. They thought that the increased pace in editing as the video progressed also worked well. Also the childish connotations of the hairspray can work well and more of this should be included.

6.  They thought that the colour distinction between the girls should be more obvious and we should consider making the older girls more sexualised with what they are wearing. By increasing the male gaze we could do this by doing more close ups on heels and legs.

7. We should also consider humiliating a boy in the video. By doing this we are making us look more powerful and includes some humour. It also makes the girls look more desirable.

PP - Digipak Experimenting

For the front cover of our digipak we have been experimenting with cutting out the girls in the picture and putting us on a different more effective background. We also plan t experiment with black and white and silhouettes.

Here is our first try and cutting round the girls using Adobe Photoshop.
